McPherson County board reorganizes for 2020, approves appointments and county policies

At its Jan. 8 statutory meeting the McPherson County Board of Commissioners reorganized leadership for 2020, approved staffing and administrative resolutions, accepted a furnace replacement bid and set road labor rates for the year.
The McPherson County Board of Commissioners held its annual statutory meeting Jan. 8, 2020, and confirmed leadership, staffing and administrative policies for the year.
Chairman John Bryant was appointed board chairman for 2020 after a motion by Commissioner Carl Rundback and seconded by Commissioner Brett Nason; the motion passed with all three commissioners voting aye. The board also named Nason vice chairman for 2020 and approved claims and payroll for the period.
Commissioners accepted a bid from Cloudfire Services to replace two courthouse gas furnaces and install programmable Honeywell thermostats, replacing older heat-pump units. The board reviewed department claims spanning general, road, fair and senior meal funds and approved routine vendor payments.
The board approved RESOLUTION #2020-1 setting 2020 county road labor and machine hire rates, including a 2.8% wage increase for road employees with at least two years’ county experience. The resolution lists hourly rates for single-handed employees, tractor and blade operators, and charge rates for equipment hired with prior board approval.
The commissioners also handled a package of routine administrative resolutions: designating county depositories and authorizing the treasurer to invest county funds; appointing Whitney Lindstedt as county attorney under RESOLUTION #2020-5; naming Bonnie Edwards of North Platte to serve as county surveyor for 2020 with no fee to McPherson County; and authorizing outside counsel representation on a per-case basis when the county attorney is unavailable.
In personnel actions the board appointed Richard Cook as McPherson County Weed Superintendent at $12 per hour and appointed Kathy Hoberg as the county’s DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse administrator. Commissioners set committee memberships for 2020, including safety committee appointments and representatives to regional boards.
The meeting concluded with routine items—quarterly reports and annual paperwork—and adjourned with the next regular meeting set for Feb. 12, 2020.
By adopting the rates, appointments and administrative resolutions, the board completed its annual organization and set the county’s administrative posture for the year.
