The McPherson County Board of Commissioners held a sequence of hearings and a special meeting on Sept. 20, 2023 to set the county’s final tax request and adopt the 2023–24 budget. Notices were published in the Stapleton Enterprise and copies of the proposed budget were made available in the courtroom for public review.
During the hearing to set the final tax request the board recorded a proposed tax request of $887,007.34, which represents a $109,848.70 increase versus the prior year. No members of the public attended to speak during the allotted comment periods. The board later met in a special session and voted to approve and adopt the 2023–24 budget, adopt appropriation resolutions, and adopt RESOLUTION #2023‑16 setting the county’s property tax rate at 0.252940 per $100 of assessed value (the 2022–23 rate was 0.228569).
Minutes record that, based on the tax request and other revenue changes, the county operating budget increased by 4.12% over the prior year. The board documented the vote and the resolutions in the official record; the clerk and treasurer maintain copies of the adopted budget and aggregate comparisons.
