McPherson County adopts One-and Six-Year Road Plan, awards Prairie Trace pulverizing bid

The McPherson County Board adopted the 2023–2024 One-and Six-Year Road Improvement Program by RESOLUTION #2024-7 during the Feb. 14 meeting after Highway Superintendent Tom Werblow reviewed each project. The plan lists county projects and provides a roadmap for prioritized maintenance and capital work.
Public input about the Soddy Road safety-improvement needs occurred across several meetings; the commissioners discussed pulverizing methods, material mixes and contractor proposals and received a $100,000 installment from the Robert F. Hanich Trust to assist the Soddy Road Safety Improvement Project. The board reviewed a Figgins Construction proposal but took no immediate action during April.
On Nov. 13 the board opened a sealed bid for the Prairie Trace Road project; the only bid received was from Level LLC for $55,000 and the board voted to accept it, authorizing the contract. Earlier in the year the board had also approved a schedule of Road Overseers and adopted road and labor pricing for 2024 (RESOLUTION #2024-2).
The board continues to research techniques for converting or repairing paved segments, including outreach to contractors and other counties. Highway Superintendent Werblow was assigned to prepare sealed-bid specifications when procurement thresholds required it.
Next steps: staff will manage contracting with Level LLC, monitor use of Hanich Trust funds for Soddy Road as applicable, and report progress and budget impacts at future meetings.
