Commissioners approve street vacations, continue Soddy Road improvements and accept trust payment for safety work

The McPherson County Board of Commissioners approved the vacation of portions of Platt Street and Fourth Street following a public hearing on June 8, 2022; the board later signed RESOLUTION #2022-10 to record the vacation in the Register of Deeds.
The requests were initiated by adjacent landowners and the clerk’s office followed statutory notice procedures before the June hearing. Commissioners recorded no objections during the hearing and voted unanimously to vacate the specified rights-of-way.
Separately, the board continued work on the Soddy Road safety and widening project. Road Superintendent reports show crews placing shoulder material and adding width; commissioners discussed bids, materials and forthcoming construction phases. The minutes record receipt of the second of five payments from the Robert Hanich Trust — $100,000 — intended to fund the Soddy Road Safety Improvement Project.
Commissioners also reviewed other road-plan requests (including an access for a new home on section 15-19-30) and approved routine road-plan updates. The board noted that some road projects require signed easements or cost-sharing agreements with landowners before construction can proceed.
