The McPherson County Board of Commissioners adopted the county’s 2022–2023 budget and set a final property tax request of $777,158.64 following a Special Hearing and Budget Hearing on Sept. 14, 2022.
Commissioner Brett Nason presented an overview of the proposed budget during the public hearings; no members of the public attended to offer comments. After review, the board voted to approve RESOLUTION #2022-17 (adoption and appropriations) and RESOLUTION #2022-18 (property tax request). The board recorded that the new property tax request is $15,886.05 greater than the prior year.
The board also recorded the subdivision levies and the countywide levy (after a numerical correction adopted in November) at a McPherson County combined rate of 0.228568 per $100 of assessed value. County officials said the change in the operating budget represents a 9.21% increase in total operating expenditures versus last year, driven by standard program and service costs included in the proposed budget.
County Clerk Katherine Hoberg provided copies of the proposed budget and an aggregate comparison to last year’s numbers for public review prior to the vote. The minutes note the board followed state notice requirements and that no public testimony was received during the hearings.
The board’s action completes the formal budget-adoption process; commissioners said implementation and routine monitoring will follow as the fiscal year progresses.
