The McPherson County Board of Commissioners on June 11 approved RESOLUTION #2025-8, increasing the minimum weekly hours for eligibility in the county health insurance plan from 20 hours to 32 hours.
Discussion about the change began in May, when commissioners reviewed Blue Cross Blue Shield rate updates and signaled intent to raise the minimum eligibility threshold. The June resolution passed unanimously and instructs the county to add the new minimum-hours rule to the McPherson County Personnel System effective for 2025 benefits administration (SEG 070).
Earlier in the spring the county also reviewed voluntary employee-benefit program offerings; representatives from Colonial Life and AFLAC met with commissioners in April and July to present optional group-term life and supplemental insurance options. The board voted to enter the Colonial Life group-term policy that includes a $10,000 guarantee-issue term policy for eligible employees (SEG 041).
The board indicated the policy change was intended to align benefits with staffing and budget considerations; the minutes show the board will adopt a formal resolution and include the change in the personnel manual.
