McPherson County accepts $100,000 Hanich Trust grant, advances Soddy Road and hires contractors for road work

McPherson County officials recorded several major road and infrastructure actions across 2025 as they implemented the county’s One-and-Six Year Road Plan and used grant funds to advance safety projects.
At the May 14 meeting commissioners acknowledged receipt of a $100,000 final payment from the Robert F. Hanich Charitable Trust, routed through Adams Bank & Trust, to complete the Soddy Road safety improvement project. The board expressed formal appreciation to the Hanich Trust and Adams Bank & Trust for the funding (SEG 057).
The board also contracted with Level LLC for asphalt pulverization work on county roads, recording a $55,000 payment for pulverization work (SEG 056). Road department staff and the highway superintendent, Tom Werblow, discussed additional purchases including crushed concrete from Simon Construction after a price comparison and the need to procure or replace heavy equipment; the board set an auction bid cap for a replacement flatbed trailer and later approved purchase of a Sodbuster disc for $13,267 to be paid from the Inheritance Fund with a four-year repayment plan from the Road Fund (RESOLUTION #2025-13) (SEGS 084–096).
Commissioners approved monthly Road Plans throughout the year and adopted the One-and-Six Year Road Improvement Program (RESOLUTION #2025-7) in February after Werblow presented project details. Road staff reported ongoing rock hauling, asphalt patching and equipment maintenance, and authorized limited local purchases when below the bid threshold. The county also adopted RESOLUTION #2025-9 approving an agreement with Nebraska Department of Transportation for Project No. STP-92(113) (SEG 070).
The minutes record funding sources, contract vendors and motions authorizing purchases and contracts. The Hanich Trust grant and Level LLC contract were noted as critical to upcoming construction and safety work; copies of contracts and the One-and-Six Year Plan are on file with the county clerk.
