McPherson County board completes annual reorganization, names officers and sets road pay schedule

At its Jan. 8 reorganizational meeting the McPherson County Board of Commissioners appointed new leadership for 2025, adopted resolutions setting road labor prices and appointed a highway superintendent and weed superintendent.
The McPherson County Board of Commissioners completed its annual reorganizational business on Jan. 8, approving meeting minutes and claims before naming leadership and adopting personnel and pay resolutions.
Brett W. Nason was appointed board chairman and Jeff Arensdorf vice-chairman for 2025 after a unanimous vote, the minutes show. The board also voted to appoint Richard (Rich) Cook as county Weed Superintendent at $14.00 per hour and adopted RESOLUTION #2025-2, which establishes county road and labor prices for 2025 and includes a 3% cost-of-living increase for road employees with two or more years’ service.
The board appointed Tom Werblow as McPherson County Highway Superintendent for a salary of $9,000 under RESOLUTION #2025-3. The board established the monthly Road Overseer rotation for the year and confirmed members of the 2025 Safety Committee.
County Attorney Whitney Schroeder, County Treasurer Kerri Kramer and County Clerk Kathy Hoberg were recorded as present at the meeting; road employee Ed Black also attended. All motions recorded in the minutes for the Jan. 8 meeting passed unanimously.
The board said its next step on road policy and projects would be consideration of the One-and-Six Year Road Plan at a hearing later in February. The Jan. 8 minutes list the full text of the adopted pay schedule and related resolutions, which are available on file in the county clerk’s office.
The board adjourned at 9:55 a.m.; its next regular meeting was set for Feb. 12, 2025.
