Big Horn County adopts resolution of intent to raise ambulance fees, schedules public hearing

The Big Horn County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution of intent on Sept. 25 to increase fees charged by the Big Horn County Ambulance Department and set a public hearing for Oct. 16, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., officials said.
Deputy County Attorney Heather Ready presented Resolution 2025-34, citing existing Montana Code Annotated authority for county fee-setting. The resolution says increases are intended to offset higher fuel costs, employee wages and ambulance maintenance and to reduce general-fund subsidies for ambulance operations. The document attached to the minutes lists proposed fee schedule changes, including raising the standby fee for community events from $105 to $150 per hour.
Commissioner Larry Vandersloot moved to approve the resolution of intent, Commissioner Lawrence Big Hair seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. The resolution directs notice of the Oct. 16 hearing to be published in accordance with MCA notice requirements. The Oct. 16 hearing will be the forum for public testimony and any further board action on the fee schedule.
