The Big Horn County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a $15,000 contribution to the City of Hardin to cover geotechnical-services costs for a pilot tourism visitor center, commissioners said Sept. 25.
Mayor Purcell and Andrew Lehr, the city finance officer, told the board the visitor center is intended to provide a central space for local vendors and businesses to advertise and connect to marketing resources. The city had funds set aside for the geotechnical work but reported a $15,000 shortfall. Commissioner Larry Vandersloot moved to grant the $15,000; Commissioner Lawrence Big Hair seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
The funding will be used for geotechnical services tied to site preparation and engineering needs; city officials also said the pilot program would support a marketing position to help local businesses connect to resources. The minutes record no conditions attached to the county contribution.
