Big Horn County commissioners approve $40,000 planning grant application, commit $10,000 local match

The Big Horn County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously on Nov. 26, 2025, to authorize submission of a Montana Coal Endowment Program infrastructure planning grant and to commit $10,000 in local matching funds toward a $30,000 grant request, bringing the total project budget to $40,000. Commissioner George Real Bird III, acting pro tempore, called the meeting to order and recorded the unanimous approvals.
The resolution presented by Lawrence Jace Killsback, Director of Economic Development and Housing, directs the county to apply to the Montana Department of Commerce for planning funds to update the county’s Comprehensive Capital Improvements Plan (CIP) and names Killsback as the county official authorized to submit the application and provide additional information as needed.
Commissioner Larry Vandersloot moved to approve Resolution 2024-40; Commissioner George Real Bird III seconded the motion. The minutes record the motion passed unanimously. Earlier in the meeting the board also approved claims (recorded in the minutes as "Claims 1 136") and adopted minutes from Nov. 6 and Nov. 20, 2025 by unanimous vote.
