The Big Horn County Board of County Commissioners on Nov. 20 took several routine actions, approving claims, contracts and three resolutions and holding a public hearing on ambulance fees that drew no public comment.
Commissioner George Real Bird III moved to approve Claims 1134; Commissioner Larry Vandersloot seconded and the measure passed unanimously. The board also approved a release and agreement with the sheriff (motion by Commissioner Vandersloot; second by Commissioner Real Bird), and authorized a contract with Tyler Tech so the Clerk & Recorder Cs office can accept online payments after Deputy County Attorney Heather Ready explained the service.
In new-business actions the board unanimously approved Resolution 2025-37 declaring the board Cs intent to make First Street in Fort Smith a county road and scheduling a public hearing to receive community input. The resolution text included statutory citations (Mont. Code Ann. 7-14-2101(1)(a)(i) and 7-14-2101(2)(a)) and notes that First Street was dedicated on the Yellowtail Subdivision plat recorded Aug. 7, 1961 and historically maintained with county funds. The resolution packet directs that the board will hold a public hearing at the Big Horn Baptist Church to collect comments on the proposal; the printed text sets the hearing time as shown in the resolution language.
The board also adopted Resolution 2025-38 to close county offices between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Dec. 18, 2025 so employees can attend annual safety training, and Resolution 2025-39 to close county offices at noon on Dec. 24, 2025 (employees may take leave or remain on duty per the resolution). All three resolutions passed unanimously.
During the ambulance-fee public hearing Ambulance Director Patty Medicine Horse said fees have not been changed since the 1990s; no members of the public spoke. Lawrence Killsback used the public-comment period to say he will submit an MCEP planning grant application for the county Cs Comprehensive Capital Improvements Plan and a Destination Events Grant to support the American Indian Heritage Indian Relays scheduled for September 2026.
The meeting adjourned with no further business.
Actions taken at the meeting were recorded in the official minutes and supporting documents attached to the board packet.
