Big Horn County approves Placer Labs venue-analytics contract, $9,700 annual fee

On Oct. 23, 2025, the Big Horn County Board of County Commissioners approved an order form with Placer Labs Inc. that provides access to Placer’s venue analytics platform, including advanced market reports. Heather Ready, the county’s deputy county attorney, told the board that County Attorney Torske requested a contractual change that Placer did not accept; despite that, Commissioner Larry Vandersloot moved to approve the contract, Commissioner George Real Bird III seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The order form lists a discounted annual fee of $9,700 (a list price of $12,000 with a $2,300 discount). It sets an initial term of 12 months with automatic renewals unless either party gives written notice at least 20 days before the renewal date. The document limits the number of authorized users to two and restricts permitted uses: Placer Data may be used for the customer’s internal business purposes and incorporated into limited “Research Data,” but may not be resold or broadly distributed. The order form explicitly prohibits using Placer Data to train third-party AI technologies or similar models, and it allows Placer to suspend or terminate access for material breach or nonpayment.
The order form includes confidentiality provisions and post-termination requirements that require the county to delete or certify deletion of Placer Data within 10 days of termination, with narrow exceptions for ordinary backups and regulatory retention. The contract also states that fees are nonrefundable and that Placer may invoice annually in advance; failure to pay within 14 days can result in termination of the order form.
