The Cleburne City Council on Jan. 13 approved two public-safety equipment purchases for the fire department: a lease-purchase for nine ZOLL EKG/defibrillator monitors (authorization not to exceed $589,507.68) and a purchase of 14 Motorola APX Next XC handheld radios (not to exceed $130,000).
Staff told the council the ZOLL monitors consolidate monitoring and defibrillation into a single, rugged unit with advanced diagnostic tools, real-time coaching during cardiopulmonary resuscitation and pediatric-parameter auto-adjustments. “One of the cool things about ZOLL is their service plan says that we will never be without a monitor,” the presenter said, explaining the vendor’s on-site support and replacement policy.
On the radios, staff said the APX models are water- and submersion-proof, rated for high heat and rugged for fire operations, include GPS location capability for personnel tracking, support over-the-air programming and have a ‘smart connect’ feature that can fall back to cellular networks if radio towers are unavailable.
Council asked about warranty and service continuity if manufacturers change ownership; staff acknowledged FDA-approval issues can affect parts/service chains for legacy equipment and said the proposed arrangements include service provisions. Staff also stated both purchases were budgeted in the department’s capital plan.
Both items were approved by voice vote with a unanimous outcome.
