Portland Fish Exchange reports weak January landings; board approves new buyer

At the Feb. 23 meeting the Portland Fish Exchange subcommittee provided its January report: landings for the period were reported at about $90,000 versus a budgeted $225,000, and overall unloads and auction activity were down.
Tracy, reading the subcommittee materials, said January sales and landings were down compared with prior periods and noted a missing January financial table in the packet; Diane volunteered to provide and distribute corrected January financials to the board. Board members said they would prefer direct reporting from PFE staff or the operations manager when possible.
The board also considered an application from Quality Custom Packing to register as a new buyer. Rob noted the applicant had not supplied its federal dealer permit number on the application; Mary and others clarified that the Portland Fish Exchange submits buyer activity under its own federal dealer number and that individual buyers do not always need a separate number for the exchange to report purchases. After discussion the board voted to approve Quality Custom Packing as a new buyer (roll-call vote recorded) and the motion carried.
Board members asked staff to ensure applications include completed fields and suggested minor bylaw language clarifications to ensure the exchange manager has clear authorities when time is short between board meetings.
