Jefferson County board approves roofing contracts, grants and multiple facility-use agreements

At its Sept. 9 special meeting the Jefferson County Board of Education approved a slate of contracts, grants and facility agreements ranging from roofing repairs at Pleasant Grove sites to after-school and athletics services.
The board awarded Bid #29-25 for roofing repairs: Package A (Pleasant Grove High School) to GKL Companies, Inc. for $919,190 (base and alternates) and Package H (Pleasant Grove Fieldhouse) to Standard Roofing of Montgomery, Inc. for $74,580. The awards were approved as part of the finance agenda and recorded as unanimously approved.
Under Teaching and Learning recommendations, the board approved use of an FY25 Agriscience Extended Year Grant to support agriscience and FFA programming, including stipends, registration and travel. Funding was awarded for Dr. Joshua Tubbs at Mortimer Jordan High School to cover 20 additional workdays at a rate of $373.60 per day for the 2024–25 school year.
The board also approved multiple use-of-facility agreements and intergovernmental agreements: Center Point Quarterback Boosters and Center Point Band Boosters were authorized concessions and signage use at Center Point High School; Rudd Middle School PTA concessions were approved; Minor Alumni Band Boosters concessions were approved for Minor High School home football games; and intergovernmental agreements were approved allowing the City of Fultondale and the City of Warrior to use specified school facilities for city-sponsored community programs through Sept. 30, 2026.
Contracts for media and athletics services were approved, including a contracted services agreement with Raymond Lincoln Moxey for Clay-Chalkville High School football video services through May 31, 2026; Jacob McCune for Clay-Chalkville Middle School football photography; and Riko Harris/iPush Media, LLC for Pleasant Grove High School middle school football photography and videography. The board also approved a contract with Mike McCoy/Maximum Performance to provide strength and conditioning at Shades Valley High School from Sept. 22, 2025 through Jan. 5, 2026.
The board approved a set of Use of Facility Agreements allowing the Discovery Clubs of the Jimmie Hale Mission to hold weekly after-school meetings at 11 schools (Adamsville, Bryant Park, Chalkville, Clay, Fultondale, Gardendale, Johnson, McCalla, Minor Community, Pleasant Grove and Snow Rogers) with site-specific start and end dates through March 2026. The board approved these items by motions recorded on the meeting agenda; most motions were moved and seconded by board members and passed unanimously.
These approvals will allow district staff and outside organizations to finalize scheduling and contracts for the coming school year. The board adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
