Jefferson County Schools recognize 27 ENERGY STAR schools, new National Board Certified Teachers and coaching honors

Superintendent Dr. Walter B. Gonsoulin Jr. used the Jan. 22 Jefferson County Board of Education meeting to highlight positive developments across the district, announcing that 27 schools earned ENERGY STAR certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and recognizing several staff accomplishments.

District officials and representatives from Cenergistic presented awards and certificates to the named schools, including Bagley Elementary, Bragg Middle, Brookville Elementary, Bryant Park Elementary, Burkett Center, Center Point Elementary, Chalkville Elementary, Clay Elementary, Corner Middle, Erwin Intermediate, Erwin Middle, Gardendale Elementary, Gardendale High, Hueytown Primary, McAdory High, McCalla Elementary, Minor High, Minor Middle, North Jefferson Middle, Pinson Elementary, Pinson Valley High, Pleasant Grove Elementary, JCIB MYP, Rudd Middle, Shades Valley High, UW Clemon Elementary and Warrior Elementary.

Dr. Gonsoulin also announced two assistant coaches who were named Assistant Coaches of the Year by the Alabama Football Coaches Association: Jeremie Marshall of McAdory (6A assistant coach of the year) and Jason Doss of Corner (5A assistant coach of the year). The board congratulated three educators who achieved National Board Certification — Samantha Bonner (Hueytown High School), David Box (Rudd Middle School) and Charlotte Worthy (Clay-Chalkville High School) — and acknowledged staff who maintained certification for another five years.

Media Specialist Jordan Fancher presented each board member with two commemorative books to place in school libraries in their honor. The board marked January as Alabama’s School Board Member Recognition Month and Superintendent Gonsoulin personally thanked board members for their service.

The board proceeded to routine business after the recognitions.
