Jefferson County Board approves charters and program contracts for student trips and school activities

The Jefferson County Board of Education on Jan. 13, 2026 approved a set of travel, charter and program contracts that the Teaching and Learning Committee presented.
The board approved an agreement with iFly to support a STEM field trip for Rudd Middle School scheduled for Feb. 19, 2026 and a facility use license with Church of the Highlands to host Counseling and Assessment district leadership meetings Feb. 3–5, 2026. The board also approved charter transportation quotes from Eagle Christian Tours for HOSA (Feb. 25–27, 2026), FCCLA (Mar. 5–6, 2026) and DECA (Feb. 20, 2026) State Leadership Conferences; successful competitors may advance to national competitions under program rules.
Additional travel approvals included American Travel Consulting, LLC for North Jefferson Middle School’s 6th Grade Band trip to Atlanta, GA on April 25, 2026 and Thrasher Brothers Transportation for Gardendale High School’s senior class trip to Montgomery, AL on March 18, 2026. The board also approved a Camelot Charter and Limousine agreement for Minor High School Honors students to travel to Six Flags over Georgia on April 23, 2026; the minutes record the funding source for that $4,500 contract as local funds. A revised Thrasher Brothers Trailways charter for Bryan Elementary’s 4th grade gifted trip to Camp McDowell on April 30, 2026 increased from $1,400 to $1,500 (a $100 increase), with local funds listed as the funding source.
The board approved a proposal from J. Casas & Associates to provide professional development at Chalkville Elementary on Feb. 13, 2026 focused on relationship building and behavior strategies, and approved a contracted services agreement with The Dance Foundation to provide weekly creative movement classes at Hueytown Intermediate from January–February 2026. The board also approved an amended service order with Instructure, Inc. for Counseling & Assessment that consolidates and supersedes prior individual school agreements; the amendment keeps existing services in effect.
These items were approved en bloc on a motion by Ms. Stephanie Floyd, seconded by Mr. Walter Curry, and carried unanimously.
