Superintendent cites state football title and announces $6.6 million county allocation to Jefferson County Schools

Superintendent Dr. Walter B. Gonsoulin, Jr. opened the board’s Dec. 11 ’Good Things are Happening’ segment by recognizing Clay-Chalkville High School’s football team for completing a 15-0 season and winning the 6A state championship; Head Coach Stuart Floyd and Principal Dr. Eugene Dallas joined the meeting and the team participated via Webex.
Dr. Gonsoulin also reported that the Jefferson County Commission presented the district with a check for more than $6.6 million at November’s commission meeting. The amount is part of the commission’s annual $18 million allocation to local school boards and is distributed based on student counts in each district; the superintendent thanked commissioners for supporting students and district goals.
He thanked families and child-nutrition staff for Thanksgiving events around the district and noted the JEFCOED Foundation sponsored a Thanksgiving luncheon at central office. The board recorded these recognitions and the donation announcement in the minutes; no formal vote was required for the recognition items.
