Board approves umpire and athletics services, facility uses, PowerSchool renewals and declares 2021 Tahoe surplus

On Dec. 11 the Jefferson County Board of Education approved a package of operations items recommended by the Operations Committee, covering athletics officials, contracted services, facility use, transportation surplus and software training and renewals.
The board approved contracts with multiple umpire associations to provide officials for softball and baseball during the 2026 seasons (Central Alabama Softball Umpire Association; Shelby County Baseball Umpire Association; North Jefferson Softball Umpire Association; Iron City Baseball Umpire Association; North Central District Umpire Association). The board also approved a revised contracted services agreement with Let’s Cheer for Corner Middle School to correct the price to $10.00 per cheerleader, per visit.
The board approved a 36-month lease with Pitney Bowes for a postage meter at Hueytown High School with quarterly payments of $204.06 (totaling $816.24 per year). Use-of-facility agreements were approved for Bryan Elementary gym use by the Morris Youth Association (youth basketball practices) and for Bagley Elementary gym use by Corner Community Park (basketball and cheerleading practice/games). The board approved a PowerSchool PowerScheduler training contract (Jan. 30, 2026–Jan. 29, 2027) for counselors and administrators and renewed the PowerSchool Enrollment subscription (Apr. 11, 2026–Apr. 10, 2027).
The Transportation Department had a 2021 Chevy Tahoe (VIN 1GNSCMKDXMR201386) declared surplus with approval to sell the vehicle. The board also approved deletion of fixed assets or supplemental inventory at various schools and cafeterias. All motions in this package were presented on recommendation of the superintendent and approved by unanimous vote where recorded.
Several items were presented as routine operations approvals; the board approved a late submission to allow the Barre Dance Company to use the Gardendale High School auditorium for a recital on Dec. 14, 2025. The Technology Department presented each board member with a 3D-printed Christmas ornament during the meeting, and the board agreed to hold a special called meeting Jan. 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
