St Clair County school board approves classroom tech, vehicles and Commerce Bank purchasing-card agreement

The St Clair County Schools Board of Education on Jan. 27 unanimously approved a series of operational purchases and administrative agreements intended to support classrooms, transportation and district procurement.
On a motion by Mrs. Nickie Stevens VanPelt, seconded by Ms. Allison Gray, the board approved the purchase of 20 ViewSonic interactive boards for Springville at a total cost of $47,500, to be paid from Springville District Tax Revenue. CSFO Danielle Pope noted financial reports for the period ending Dec. 2025 were presented earlier in the meeting.
The board also approved a master service agreement with Commerce Bank to provide purchasing cards after a motion by Mr. Randy Thompson, seconded by Mrs. VanPelt. The motion was recorded as unanimously approved.
The board approved purchase of four county vehicles through state contract pricing from McSweeney Auto: three 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500s with service bodies at $59,158.53 each and one 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 without a service body at $48,754.65, for a total of $226,230.24, to be paid with general funds. The motion to approve that purchase was made by Mrs. Cathy Fine and seconded by Mr. Bill Morris and recorded as unanimous.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved the consent agenda, which included minutes from Dec. 16, 2025; fixed asset dispositions for January; several facility-use requests (Dance Works of Alabama LLC, St. Clair 6 FFA Alumni, Soar Volleyball Club and Wellness Warrior LLC); and travel authorizations for Odenville Intermediate students and district special education staff. No members of the public signed up for comment.
The minutes show the personnel agenda was moved and seconded, but the transcript records 'Vote Not Recorded' for individual members on that item; the minutes do not provide a clear tally for that vote in the transcript.
The board set its next meeting for Feb. 17, 2026, at the Moody High School Gymnasium.
