Nelson County accepts $4,239.10 bid for Petersburg foreclosure, sets procedures for unsold properties

At a Nov. 15 special meeting, Nelson County accepted a minimum bid of $4,239.10 from James Schmidt for a Petersburg foreclosed lot and approved selling unsold foreclosed parcels back to local jurisdictions for $1 if requested.
At a special Nov. 15, 2022, county sale session, Nathan Parks, having taken the oath as Nelson County auditor, opened the foreclosure sale. The auditor called for bids on foreclosed parcels in the City of Petersburg and other jurisdictions.
James Schmidt submitted the minimum bid of $4,239.10 for Lot 1 of Block 6 of Peterson’s 1st Addition in the City of Petersburg. The board, on a motion by Commissioner Steve Forde and second by Commissioner Don Fougner, accepted Schmidt’s bid; all members voted yes.
There were no bids on foreclosure properties located in the City of Michigan and Sarnia Township. Auditor Parks discussed the option of selling those unsold parcels back to the respective cities and township for $1.00; the board approved selling the properties back to the cities and township for $1.00 if requested. The auditor closed the sale and the special meeting adjourned.
