Portland staff, councilors to oppose amendment that would remove parking fine signage

"From the parking perspective, their initial assessment, they would oppose the amendment that would remove the requirement for signs informing the public about fines and fees and violations," a staff member said. The staff member added the office would not oppose a second amendment that clarifies the issuance of a ticket and the information included on notices of violation.
Councilors said the first amendment would undermine consumer protections for drivers using private parking lots and asked for written testimony laying out the concerns. Alicia Milnick of the lobby team suggested drafting testimony that opposes the problematic portion while noting support or neutrality on the clarifying piece.
The committee agreed to draft testimony opposing the amendment that removes signage requirements and to circulate the parking office’s analysis to committee members to inform testimony. The transcript did not record a formal roll-call vote; the committee recorded concurrence to take that track.
