Dothan superintendent highlights CTE equipment grant, arts award and school resource closet

At the Jan. 20 meeting, Superintendent Dr. Garrick Askew highlighted recent investments in CTE equipment, arts instruction and student supports across Dothan City Schools.
Dothan Technology Center received a $94,467 Innovation and Modernization Grant from the Alabama Department of Education Office of CTE and Workforce Development to upgrade equipment across seven high-demand programs. Planned purchases include a forklift to support Automotive, Aviation, Agriscience, Construction, HVAC, Engineering and Welding programs; a vehicle lift, brake lathe and tire changer for Automotive Technology; and commercial kitchen equipment for Culinary Arts.
Dothan Preparatory Academy was awarded a $6,000 arts grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts to fund an eight-week printmaking unit culminating in a student exhibition in May. The superintendent also noted that Kelly Springs Elementary has established the Fresh and Fabulous food and hygiene closet stocked with nonperishable food and personal-care items to support student needs during the school day.
Superintendent Askew said these investments are intended to broaden career-technical pathways, support arts education and remove barriers to learning by addressing basic student needs.
