Benzie County approves multiple grants and small budget amendments, adopts benefits policy and fee schedule

At its Feb. 24 meeting the Benzie County Board of Commissioners approved several grant agreements and budget amendments and adopted administrative policies.

Grants and amendments: The board approved the 2025 Emergency Management Performance Grant Agreement with the Michigan State Police — Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division, authorizing the chair and Emergency Management Coordinator to sign and approving a related budget amendment (motion by Len Mathieu, seconded by Rhonda Nye). The board also authorized a $25,000 budget amendment recognizing revenue and expenditures in the CDBG 535 Fund (motion by Gary Sauer, seconded by Tim Markey). A separate motion approved a $3,291.69 amendment to recognize revenue and expenditures tied to the community ice rink fund (motion by Christina Trigg, seconded by Tim Markey).

Tribal allocation and community services: Commissioners approved a 2% Tribal Council allocation grant application on behalf of Benzie Area Christian Neighbors, authorizing the chair to sign; Diane Mahoney presented information about the organization and its services (motion by Tim Markey, seconded by Len Mathieu).

Other administrative actions: The board declared certain wireless modem devices surplus and authorized their transfer to Benzie County fire agencies (motion by Gary Sauer, seconded by Len Mathieu). The board also adopted an amended directory of charges and adopted an amended Employee Benefits Policy rescinding the Oct. 22, 2024 policy; Leslie Bilbey answered commissioners’ questions on benefits.

All recorded motions on these items were approved by roll call with no recorded negative votes.
