Barry County reports $5 million state request for new law enforcement facility; federal funding window may open

County Administrator Eric Zuzga reported to the Barry County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 24 that the county submitted a $5 million funding request to the State House to support a new law enforcement facility and that he received notice from Senator Gary Peters’ office that federal funding requests will soon be available.
Zuzga said a date must be set for the final jail charrette meeting to advance planning. He also noted he will be on vacation until March 9 but will be reachable by email and that Deputy Administrator/Finance Director Crisp will handle immediate needs in his absence.
The board did not take a formal vote on the law enforcement facility during this meeting; the report served as an informational update and a prompt for scheduling further planning work and applications should federal funding be pursued when it opens.
Next steps include setting the final jail charrette meeting date and preparing any federal funding applications if/when the federal opportunity is formally announced.
