Moody City Council approved a package of routine consent items at its April 8, 2024 meeting, authorizing training travel, a personnel promotion, a grant application and several equipment and uniform purchases. Mayor Joe Lee called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m., the council conducted roll call and then moved through departmental requests and motions.
The council authorized Lt. Steve Humber to attend the Alabama Association of Chiefs of Police (AACOP) Executive Leadership training scheduled July 28–Aug. 1 in Orange Beach, Ala., with lodging and meals capped at $1,800. The request was presented by Police Department representative Reece Smith and approved on a motion by Council Member Matt Morris, seconded by Council Member Linda Crowe.
Also under the police department agenda, the council approved the promotion of James Abbott from officer to detective, effective after May 1, 2024; the position is budgeted under account 01-513-0101. That motion was made by Council Member Matt Morris and seconded by Council Member Lynn Taylor.
Library director Sara Roberts requested permission to apply for a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Technology Grant for fiscal year 2025. The council authorized the application; the grant award would not exceed $50,000 and would require a 25% local match of $12,500. Council Member Nick Rutledge moved approval and Council Member Matt Morris seconded.
Public Works (presented by Tracy L. Patterson on behalf of Steve Mitchell) received authorization to purchase two back-wheel sets for a bushhog from Coblentz Equipment for up to $3,000 (account 01-515-2504). The council also approved routine fire-department requests presented for Larry Horton (with Chris Hall participating in the discussion): a $2,000 uniform purchase from Big Daddy Stitches (01-514-4700), authorization to attend the Fire Chiefs summer conference Aug. 4–7 with lodging not to exceed $2,000 (01-514-1200), and the purchase of attack fire hose for the new truck from Bull Dog Hose at $6,325 (01-514-5400).
The council approved repairs to the city-hall fuel pumps, authorizing Oil Equipment Co. to replace copper vent lines, fittings and reducer bushings on both gas and diesel tanks at a cost not to exceed $1,500 (01-522-2504). Nearly all motions were made and seconded by named council members and recorded as approved by all present. The March 25, 2024 minutes were approved after a motion by Ellis Key and a second by Lynn Taylor; Council Member Matt Morris recorded an abstention on that vote while the remaining members voted aye.
