Moody City — The Moody City Council on June 10 unanimously approved two major paving contracts totaling up to $925,000, several routine departmental purchases and the transfer of two retail alcohol licenses for businesses at 2480 Moody Parkway.
Mayor Joe Lee called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. and the council approved the published agenda on a motion by Council Member Nick Rutledge, seconded by Council Member Matt Morris. The minutes from the May 13 meeting were approved after a motion by Council Member Linda Crowe; Council Member Matt Morris is recorded as abstaining on that vote.
The council approved a City Park Asphalt, Seal Coat and Striping Project not to exceed $575,000, to be funded from the Capital Projects and Paving Reserve Fund and tied to the annual contract bid projects #22.006.14 and #22.006.15. Mayor Lee presented the project and Council Member Matt Morris moved approval; Nick Rutledge seconded the motion. The council then approved a separate City Road Asphalt and Repair Project not to exceed $350,000 to repair and repave streets in Spring Valley and portions of Ivy Place and specified segments of Daniel Drive, James Taylor Road and Park Avenue extending toward Kelly Creek, with funding from the RAA tax and the Paving Reserve Fund.
Several departmental purchases were approved as budgeted line items: a Blitz Gun and smooth-bore nozzles for the fire department from The Fire Store for $7,100; three dress uniforms from Galls for $1,600; murals for splash pad doors by Riverswater Beauty for $750; repair of the Centeron monitor on the city-hall gas pumps by Oil Equipment Co. for $3,256.99; and repair of a 2017 Ford Explorer for $3,268.97 by Express Oil Change. Each item was moved and seconded by council members and carried by unanimous vote.
The council also approved adding July 5, 2024 to the city’s holiday list for 2023–24 and approved two alcohol-license actions from applicant Krishna 08, LLC: a transfer of a Retail Liquor — Class II (package) license for Parkway Liquor at 2480 Moody Parkway, Suite 100, and Retail Beer (off premises) and Retail Table Wine (off premises) sales at C Store on Parkway, 2480 Moody Parkway, Suite 101. Both license actions were approved without recorded opposition.
Department and committee contacts for May 2024 were entered into the record, listing Mike Staggs (Park and Recreation), Reece Smith (Police Department), Larry Horton (Fire Department), David Crowe (Public Inspections), Steve Mitchell (Public Works), Sara Roberts (Library), Tim Senft (Municipal Court) and Addie Duke (Senior Center). No substantive debate on those reports is recorded in the minutes.
Votes at a glance: the agenda and each listed departmental purchase and license transfer were approved by the council; the May 13 minutes passed with one abstention (Council Member Matt Morris). The meeting was adjourned by Mayor Lee at 6:16 p.m.
What’s next: minutes show no further items scheduled; actions approved will proceed according to department procurement and project timelines.
