Moody City Council adopts 2024–25 budget, approves library upgrades and bridge planning grant

The Moody City Council on Sept. 9, 2024, adopted the City of Moody 2024–2025 budget and approved several routine purchases and personnel actions during a 14‑minute meeting that opened at 6:00 p.m. and adjourned at 6:14 p.m.
Council Member Lynn Taylor moved to approve the published meeting agenda; Council Member Matt Morris seconded and the motion carried. The council then approved the minutes from the Aug. 26, 2024 meeting on a motion by Council Member Nick Rutledge and a second by Council Member Ellis Key; Council Member Matt Morris abstained on that vote while the remaining members voted in favor.
Library Director Sara Roberts secured council approval for three items: a one‑year renewal of website hosting and maintenance with Local Government Corporation for $2,190 (account 01‑519‑4900); acceptance of a $5,000 Coosa Valley RC&D Council grant to fund a community gardening station (the grant is 100% reimbursable); and the purchase of a Flex‑Space Lounge and Learn couch for the children’s area from Lakeshore Learning for $749. Each motion carried on unanimous council votes.
Fire Chief Larry Horton received authorization to purchase five sets of turnout gear from vendor EEP at a cost not to exceed $20,000 (budgeted to account 01‑514‑5401, 2 mil tax). Horton also received approval to advertise and hire one full‑time replacement position and to renew the yearly advertisement for part‑time positions for Sept. 10, 2024–Sept. 10, 2025. All three personnel and procurement measures were approved unanimously.
Mayor Joe Lee requested and the council approved a repair to the city hall server room air‑conditioning unit by Tri County Heating and Air at a cost not to exceed $2,500 (account 01‑522‑4502).
On a motion by Council Member Lynn Taylor, seconded by Council Member Nick Rutledge, the council adopted Resolution R2024‑09‑09 authorizing the City of Moody to participate in the Bridge Investment Program planning grant for the I‑20 and Kelly Creek Road bridge.
Mayor Lee moved to close the meeting at 6:14 p.m.; with no further business the council adjourned.
Actions recorded in the minutes indicate routine, mostly unanimous approvals intended to implement the adopted budget, maintain city facilities and advance a planning grant for bridge work.
