Sauk County law committee approves routine expense payments, hears sheriff's operations update

The Sauk County Law Enforcement & Judiciary Committee on Feb. 10, 2026, approved a slate of departmental expense payments and heard routine updates from courts and public-safety offices during a 19-minute meeting at the West Square Building in Baraboo.
The committee adopted the meeting agenda (motion by J. Deitrich, seconded by D. Clemens) and approved minutes from its Jan. 13 meeting (motion by D. Clemens, seconded by J. Deitrich). Both motions carried.
Committee members voted to approve a series of departmental bills. Circuit Court expenses of $1,583.46 were approved on a motion by J. Deitrich, seconded by S. Alexander. The Register in Probate reported caseload numbers consistent with prior months and a budget on track; the committee approved Register in Probate payments of $2,932.53 (Dec. 2025) and $109.10 (2026) (motion by D. Clemens, seconded by B. Peper).
The Child Support Agency said collections were slightly down for January but reported it was fully staffed as of the prior day; the committee approved Child Support Agency payment of $1,632.90 (motion by S. Alexander, seconded by D. Clemens). The Court Commissioner noted traffic initial appearances were down slightly and that 2025 budget overages are under review with the finance director; Court Commissioner expenses of $650.00 were approved (motion by J. Deitrich, seconded by B. Peper).
Clerk of Court staff told the committee collections and revenue are running on track and that the 2025 budget is under; they also noted two local Spanish interpreters will be taking certification tests in upcoming months. The committee approved Clerk of Court payments of $35,136.00 (Dec. 2025) and $22,996.70 (2026) (motion by D. Clemens, seconded by J. Deitrich).
The District Attorney reported caseload activity slightly down from January 2025, expects to finish 2025 under budget, and noted staffing turnover: one attorney left and a new hire plus a limited-term employee have been brought on. The committee approved DA payments of $27,657.56 (Dec. 2025) and $889.38 (2026) (motion by B. Peper, seconded by J. Deitrich).
The Sauk County Animal Shelter's monthly report was posted to Granicus. The Coroner said invoices were minimal for January and posted reports in Granicus; coroner expenses of $178.00 (Dec. 2025) and $391.64 (2026) were approved (motion by J. Deitrich, seconded by B. Peper).
Sheriff's Office staff reported 4,914 calls for service in the reporting period, 1,108 offender days, and $17,751.60 in GPS monitoring profit; committee-approved Sheriff's expenses totaled $2,545.35 (Dec. 2025) and $217,729.41 (2026) (motion by J. Deitrich, seconded by B. Peper).
The committee scheduled its next regular meeting for March 10, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. and adjourned at 5:19 p.m. (motion by D. Clemens, seconded by S. Alexander).
