Angleton council approves farmers market street closure, budget amendment and multiple board appointments

The Angleton City Council approved several routine items by voice vote on Sept. 23.

On the consent agenda the council approved a street closure request filed by Ellen Eby on behalf of the Peach Street Farmers Market for Oct. 25, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mayor Pro Tem Travis Townsend called for the vote and members responded “aye.”

Council then considered Resolution No. 20250923‑005 to nominate applicants to the Brazoria County Appraisal District board. After discussion and a motion by Councilmember Sarton (seconded by Councilmember Daniel), the council carried the nomination for the current director (name appears variably in the record) by voice vote.

The council also approved Ordinance No. 20250923‑006 to amend the FY2024–25 budget to include items for the Angleton Better Living Corporation and recreation programs; staff said the rec center/ABOC portion was omitted from an earlier ordinance and this measure completes that housekeeping.

Following an executive session under Texas Government Code §551.074 for deliberation on appointments, the council returned to open session and approved multiple reappointments to boards and commissions by motion and voice vote. The motion listed numerous reappointments (recorded in the minutes) across the Angleton Leadership, parks and recreation, planning and zoning, and other advisory bodies; the council thanked applicants and encouraged citizens to apply for remaining openings.
