Angleton council adopts 2025 property tax rate after brief public hearing

Staff characterized the change as “just shy of 3%,” and council members confirmed an estimated increase of about 2.82 percent. The council held the required hearing, received no public speakers, and then voted to adopt the ordinance on a roll call that the mayor described as unanimous (6–0).
The council emphasized the procedural nature of the hearing and proceeded to the vote after no members of the public came forward. Council members who asked questions were told there were no substantive changes to the rate since the prior posting.
Adoption of the tax levy provides the revenues necessary for municipal maintenance and operating expenses and for the payment of outstanding city debt, according to the ordinance language read aloud during the meeting. Council members indicated staff will publish the final figures and the ordinance number as required by state law.
