Ringer Windows granted larger facade sign at Mustang Cove

At a public meeting, officials approved a variance allowing Ringer Windows to increase the height of one building‑mounted sign from 18 inches to 36 inches at 201 Mustang Cove in Mustang Creek Industrial Park.

Planning staff (Courtney) told the board that the request concerns a single west‑facing band sign and that staff had mailed five notices to nearby properties within 200 feet and received no written opposition. Staff said the application did not meet any of the state variance criteria but was consistent with all four city criteria for a variance.

Greg Ringer, owner of Ringer Windows, told the board the building sits “a couple 100 feet” back from Carlos G. Parker and that at highway speeds—“as people are buzzing by at 60 miles an hour plus”—drivers often miss the entrance. Ringer said the proposed 36‑inch letters are in proportion to the building’s west elevation (about 35 feet high) and would improve wayfinding. He added that the company is expanding from roughly 40,000 square feet to about 65,000 square feet and that the larger sign would help visitors locate the site.

Board members asked whether similar variances had been granted in the area; staff and members noted at least one recent instance (Panda Express) where a variance was approved. The distance from the road to the building—discussed by members and the applicant and estimated in the meeting at about 200 feet—was described as a key factor in the request.
