Argyle council rescinds prior interlocal with Denton to renegotiate regional signal coordination

The Argyle Town Council voted to rescind an earlier interlocal agreement with the city of Denton that had given Denton authority to install and maintain a traffic signal at Landmark Trail and Robeson Ranch Road.

Harrison, the town’s planning/staff presenter, said field verification and updated development plans show the existing signal arm and pole intrude into Argyle’s future right‑of‑way for the Heritage Tract; staff recommended rescinding the earlier agreement and negotiating a new interlocal to coordinate multiple signals in the corridor, including an additional signal requested for an H‑E‑B entrance. “We are planning to recommend rescinding this interlocal agreement with the city of Denton, and then executing a future interlocal agreement to combine all the lights in that corridor,” Harrison said.

Council discussion focused on who would pay to relocate the pole that currently sits too far northeast on the south side of the road, coordination with Denton County on roadway widening, and the timing of TxDOT’s larger Robeson/Crawford underpass project (a separate $215 million TxDOT effort referenced by staff). Staff indicated Denton and the county had been receptive to helping relocate the mast arm and pole; the town also plans to coordinate schedules so corridor work (three signals and nearby road widening) completes before the end of calendar year 2026 where possible.

Outcome: after brief discussion the council moved, seconded and approved the staff recommendation to rescind the 2024 interlocal and pursue a new corridor agreement with Denton and other partners. Council did not set a specific funding commitment in the public motion; staff will return with details on relocation costs and a draft interlocal for future consideration.
