Summary
Council adopted a $505,000 budget ordinance amendment in the Electric Fund to reappropriate materials costs for infrastructure in The Meadows at Smyre Creek and Maple Ridge Phase 3; street lighting costs remain pending developer decisions.
At the Oct. 7 meeting, Newton City Council adopted a budget ordinance amendment to recognize $505,000 in Electric Fund revenue and reappropriate those funds for distribution materials for two new developments: The Meadows at Smyre Creek and Maple Ridge Phase 3.
Electric Department Director Jeff Cochrane said both developers elected to use Newton City for electric utilities and that staff received material quotes totaling $505,000 for infrastructure installation in the two developments. Cochrane noted that the amount does not include street lighting; the city is awaiting developer decisions on decorative versus wooden poles and fixtures and expects to recover decorative lighting costs from developers when applicable.
Council adopted the ordinance amendment unanimously. The ordinance and supporting documents are on file with the city clerk.
