At its Feb. 28, 2023 regular meeting, the Lemon Grove School District Governing Board approved a reduction in certain classified positions and voted not to reelect a set of probationary certificated employees for the 2023–24 school year.
The board adopted Resolution No. 2022-23-11 directing reductions in classified service (motion by Cheryl Robertson; second by Greg Shibley) and Resolution No. 2022-23-12 concerning certificated reductions (motion by Cheryl Robertson; second by Greg Shibley). The meeting record shows each motion carried with yea votes from Dr. Javier Ayala, Dorinda Miller, Yajaira Preciado, Cheryl Robertson and Greg Shibley.
During the closed-session personnel review, the board reported it acted under Education Code section 44929.21 to non-reelect the following probationary certificated employees for the 2023–24 school year: 2022-23-0021, 2022-23-4580, 2022-23-9233, 2022-23-7653, 2022-23-3527, 2022-23-6167, 2022-23-9717 and 2022-23-7955. The district record states the superintendent or her designee is to notify those employees of the action in writing.
Charyl Carr was listed as a speaker addressing agenda item 5.E (the certificated reduction item); the submitted meeting record identifies the speaker but does not include the text of the remarks. The board’s formal votes and instructions to staff are reflected in the published minutes and the motions recorded on the agenda.
The board followed its formal motion-and-second process for both items and recorded unanimous approval. The public record indicates the classified reduction and the certificated non-reelection were processed separately (the certificated action was reported as taken in closed session and the classified action was considered in open session). The superintendent is responsible for carrying out the notification requirement for certificated employees.
The meeting then continued with other agenda items and adjourned at 8:56 p.m.
