Public hearings set for two annexation petitions covering 270 proposed homes

Planning Director Randy Williams said The Falls petition would annex 36.27 acres off Old Conover-Startown Road (Catawba County PIN 3730-09-16-4544), the site of a development of 191 single-family homes currently under construction. Williams said the Gaither Property petition involves 30.52 acres on the west side of Startown Road (two parcels: PINs 3720-15-64-1915 and 3720-15-64-6554) for a proposed 79-single-family-home development; a separate zoning request will be considered by the Planning Commission before council action.
On The Falls, Council Member Ed Sain voiced traffic-safety concerns related to the road out to the site and voted against the procedural resolution. On the Gaither Property, two council members voted against the procedural resolutions. Council members who voted in favor adopted the resolutions to investigate and to set the May 7 hearing, and the clerk’s certifications of sufficiency were received for both petitions.
The May 7 public hearing will give residents and stakeholders an opportunity to present comments before council considers annexation ordinances and related zoning items.
