Taylor County commissioners approve permit, transfers and appointments in routine business session

At its Jan. 20 meeting the Taylor County Board of County Commissioners approved a mud-bog special-event permit (contingent on insurance), sold two escheated parcels, appointed two members to the TCDA, assigned canvassing-board members for 2026 and approved the transfer of three surplus ambulances to the City of Perry.
The Taylor County Board of County Commissioners handled a series of routine approvals and appointments at its Jan. 20 meeting in Perry.
Consent agenda: The board approved consent items 4–10, including minutes (Dec. 16, 2025 and Jan. 5, 2026), payment of listed invoices and administrative contract extensions. The vote to approve the consent agenda was unanimous.
Special-event permit: The board held a public hearing on a special-event permit for Iron Horse Mud Ranch for events March 5–8 and Oct. 8–11, 2026. No members of the public spoke at the hearing; the board approved the permit contingent on the applicant providing renewed insurance.
Property sales and appointments: The board voted to proceed with sale of two escheated parcels (Parcel #R01754-130 and Parcel #R01752-025). The board also appointed Commissioner Jamie English to the 2026 canvassing board and Commissioner Thomas Demps as alternate. Toward county economic development, Don Everett Jr. and Jeff Bryson were appointed to the Taylor County Development Authority after ranked review and tallying of seven applicants.
Asset transfer: The county approved transferring three non-functioning diesel ambulances (model year 2009 or older) to the City of Perry so the city may destroy them under the Volkswagen Diesel Emissions Mitigation Program; the county did not retain or recommission the vehicles.
Other actions: The board authorized the county attorney to read and the board to adopt a resolution designating 1st Avenue in Steinhatchee as "First Freedom Avenue" honoring military veterans, and authorized the county attorney to file an injunction in the countys code-enforcement case against Willis because the property had not come into compliance.
All recorded votes on these items were unanimous. The meeting concluded with informational remarks from commissioners and adjournment at approximately 9:14 p.m.
