The Taylorsville Planning Commission voted unanimously on April 8 to forward a positive recommendation to the City Council for the Taylorsville Expressway Station Area Plan, a staff-led document that outlines land-use and implementation guidance around the planned Midvalley Express corridor.
Long-Range Planner Mark McGrath presented the continuing Station Area Master Plan discussion and said the consulting team was available online for questions. Commissioners raised how future Midvalley Express riders would access stations; McGrath said most parking would be located in neighboring cities and at Salt Lake Community College and that "there would be no need for park-and-ride type areas as the BRT would operate differently and be utilized primarily by walk-up customers," according to McGrath.
Commissioners also queried funding. McGrath said staff had discussed with the Utah Transit Authority and recommended changing the Implementation Chart to list "project champions" who would be responsible for identifying future funding sources, a change commissioners supported.
The motion to forward a positive recommendation was made by Commissioner Cindy Wilkey and seconded by Commissioner David Young; the motion passed unanimously. Staff recommended the city council consider the plan as a guide for station-area zoning and implementation; the commission did not take a final legislative action to adopt the plan, but rather forwarded its recommendation to the council for decision.
The next formal step is review by the Taylorsville City Council; no council action date was specified in the Planning Commission minutes.
