Nelson County commissioners approve routine business, authorize opioid settlement signup

The Nelson County Board of Commissioners met Feb. 8 and approved a slate of routine administrative actions, including authorizing the county’s enrollment in the national opioid settlement and several personnel, budget and contract items.
Chairman Nancy Marquart called the meeting to order at 10 a.m. Commissioners Steve Forde, Cody Johnson and Maynard Loibl were present. The board approved the Jan. 7 minutes and adopted the meeting agenda by unanimous vote.
States Attorney Jayme Tenneson discussed options for the county to enroll in the national opioid settlement. The board voted to allow Tenneson to sign up Nelson County for the settlement.
The board approved a series of motions by unanimous vote: the appointment of Amie Vasichek to the Nelson-Griggs District Health Unit Board; execution of a withdrawal letter for the county’s FY2021 CDBG pre-application for a single-family housing rehabilitation project; authorization for the sheriff to order new state radios for the Sheriff’s and Emergency Management departments; approval of an abatement for parcel 32-0001-79096-000; and payment of all listed county bills.
Sheriff Keith Olson was appointed the Nelson County coroner by board motion, and the board voted separately to set coroner compensation at $200 per call. The board also moved to proceed with a Court Services Contract with the State Court Administrator and accepted a Court Facilities Improvement Grant to carpet and paint the county courtroom.
On human services funding, the board agreed to use the state cost-allocation funds to cover indirect costs rather than budgeting a ½ mill beginning in 2023; the commissioners also directed reimbursement of Griggs County for its portion of the 2021 allocation ($1,555.46).
The meeting closed after the board voted to pay bills and adjourned. No votes were recorded as opposed or abstaining; motions passed with unanimous "Yes" votes where a roll call vote was recorded.
