Nelson County approves hauling permits, authorizes sale of highway surplus and revises courthouse parking signs

Nelson County’s Board of Commissioners on April 6 approved several routine highway and facility items, including hauling permits for local farms, authorization to sell surplus highway items online and revised courthouse parking signage.
Seth Hamre discussed hauling permits requested by Nelson County Pig Farm and Dusty Willow Dairy Farm. Commissioners approved the permits; the motion to approve was made by Commissioner Don Fougner and seconded by Commissioner Cody Johnson and passed unanimously.
Hamre also told the board the highway department had cleared the upstairs of the east building shop and identified many old items for disposal. The board authorized Hamre to list items on the Steffes Auction website, contingent on consulting with the State’s Attorney; the motion (moved by Commissioner Maynard Loibl, seconded by Commissioner Don Fougner) passed on a roll call vote.
On courthouse parking, Hamre referenced an earlier February decision to post seasonal restrictions. Commissioners discussed and then voted to change the parking sign wording to read “Official Business Only, No Unauthorized Parking.” The motion to change the sign text was moved by Commissioner Steve Forde and seconded by Commissioner Cody Johnson and carried with all voting yes.
The board’s actions were procedural and unanimous; no dissent or further conditions were recorded. The meeting continued with bids and other business after these items.
