Nelson County approves raises for deputies and county employees; commissioners decline pay increase

Nelson County commissioners met in two July 27, 2022 special sessions to address a drainage project and compensation. In the 9:00 a.m. session, after discussion about competitive pay, the board approved a series of raises for departmental deputies and county staff while commissioners agreed not to accept a pay increase for 2023.
Commissioner Don Fougner moved, and Commissioner Maynard Loibl seconded, to give departmental deputies a $150 per month raise; the motion carried on a roll‑call vote. The board approved an additional motion to increase another departmental deputy’s hourly rate to $17.00; that motion passed unanimously. Following discussion about overall county pay, the commission voted that the commissioners themselves will not take a salary increase for 2023.
The commission also approved giving Nelson County employees a $175 per month raise for 2023 and approved a $2,500 annual raise for the sheriff and four deputies. All recorded motions in the session passed with unanimous roll‑call votes. The meeting adjourned following the actions.
