Nelson County addresses deputy resignation and conditions for final pay

Nelson County commissioners addressed a personnel matter May 5 after the sheriff’s office reported that Deputy Dalton Knapper resigned effective April 30, 2022 and had not returned sheriff’s department property.
Keith Olson presented the sheriff’s report and said there were 153 calls for service in April and that Deputy Knapper had not returned department items after his resignation. The States Attorney told the board he would research whether the county could withhold Knapper’s sick, vacation and overtime pay until the items were returned.
Commissioner Steve Forde moved and Commissioner Don Fougner seconded a motion to approve the voucher and pay Dalton Knapper once he returns all sheriff’s department items, contingent on consultation with the States Attorney. The motion carried with all members voting yes.
