Moody City Council approves body‑camera contract, subscriptions, equipment and a $500 school donation

The Moody City Council on Feb. 12 approved a package of budgeted contracts, subscriptions and equipment purchases across public safety, library, public works and parks departments.
Police Chief Reece Smith presented an annual contract with Axon for body cameras, Tasers and cloud storage totaling $24,352.00 (budgeted line 01‑513‑3000). The council approved the contract unanimously. Chief Smith also secured approval for a LEADS online investigation system subscription for $2,714.00 and for annual calibration and repairs for vehicle radar systems at a cost not to exceed $1,200.
Other approvals included a library Atriuum subscription renewal with Book Systems, Inc. for $2,285.00; purchase of 30 tons of asphalt for road patching ($2,900); authorization to advertise and hire a replacement Public Works worker; station supplies for the fire department ($1,500); travel for Captain Chris Hall to the FDIC conference in Indianapolis (April 15‑20, 2024) at cost not to exceed $1,000; annual service on Truck‑4 ($2,450); replacement of three computers (not to exceed $3,500); and a $19,000 capital project to update apparatus reporting capabilities. Parks & Recreation will continue advertising Civic Center front desk and janitorial positions through March 1, 2025. The council approved rental of a 70‑79 HP crawler dozer for one month at $5,077.73 to clear city property, and authorization to purchase and repair city hall exterior lights for $3,000 (Section 6 capital).
Council also approved a $500 donation to the Moody High School Golf Team after a booster representative requested assistance with season costs. The motion to give $500 was moved by Lynn Taylor and seconded by Matt Morris; the motion carried with one abstention by Nick Rutledge. The other contract and purchase motions recorded unanimous AYE votes.
All approvals were presented as budgeted items and required no additional appropriation at the Feb. 12 meeting. Mayor Joe Lee adjourned the meeting at 6:45 p.m.
