Argo council discusses Spring Festival, Roulain Road storm repairs and routine business

Mayor Randy Hettich told the council the city, together with local churches, is planning a Spring Festival at Central Baptist Church on April 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., including vendor booths and a car show. The council discussed logistics and rental of vendor spots.
Mayor Pro-Tem Corky Massey said he will coordinate creation of banners to inform residents about road closures for the Roulain Road Storm Project. Council members and staff noted that school bus routes may need temporary adjustments and the Fire Department may require mutual aid in case of an emergency during the repairs.
Cynthia Higdon introduced members of the Argo Junior Council to the mayor and council. Councilperson Dennis Griffin and City Attorney Chesley reported they continue to work on Business Alliance applications and expect to have them available at the next regular council meeting. The council also noted that certain training hours are required for elected officials and additional budget funds may be needed to cover attendance at the 2026 Alabama League of Municipalities convention; members who do not attend in 2026 may attend in 2027 so all have an opportunity.
Bryan Newell, a Republican candidate for Alabama House District 50, spoke briefly at the work session about his campaign and priorities; his remarks were recorded in the minutes but did not trigger formal council action.
