Moody Council approves routine purchases, training and MOU in unanimous votes

Items approved included the police department’s purchase of a handheld Stalker Radar unit not to exceed $1,400 (budget 01-513-9900) and authorization for Chief Reece Smith to attend the Summer Chiefs Training in Orange Beach July 28–Aug. 2, 2024, with lodging costs not to exceed $2,000 (budget 01-513-1200). Council also approved purchase of picnic tables for the Splash Pad from Kirby Built at $5,126.75 (capital projects) and four children’s picnic tables for the library from S&S Worldwide at $413.95 (budget 01-519-4900).
The council approved preventive maintenance on fire engine E-3 by vendor EEP for $1,650.00 (budget 01-514-4502), accepted a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Moody and the Moody Museum at the Crossroads, and voted to surplus a 2013 Kubota tractor (model M108SHDC, serial #74992) from Public Works. All motions were moved and seconded by council members and carried by unanimous vote with Matt Morris absent.
During the public-comment portion, Joel Wallace of Oh Sherri Pub asked the council to extend the Sunday-night noise ordinance by one hour (to midnight) for St. Patrick’s Day events scheduled March 16–17, 2024; the council indicated conditional approval “as long as there is not a complaint.” Mayor Joe Lee closed the meeting at 6:16 p.m.
