Moody City Council approves routine purchases and authorizes contract to buy real property

Moody City Mayor Joe Lee called a short City Council meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. on Nov. 13, 2023, and the council quickly approved routine departmental purchases, training travel, and two resolutions, including authorization to enter a contract to purchase real property.
The council first approved the published agenda and the Oct. 23 minutes. Roll call at the start of the meeting noted Council Members Lynn Taylor and Nick Rutledge as absent. Council Members Linda Crowe, Matt Morris and Ellis Key participated alongside Mayor Joe Lee.
Department requests were recorded and tabled as appropriate, and the council approved a series of budgeted purchases: an event tent and table set (vendor Gilreath Printing, not to exceed $2,500, Fund 01-513-9900); medical supplies for the fire department (Boundtree Medical, $2,100, Fund 01-514-5200); a set of tires for the Park F-150 (Moody Auto Service, $964, Vehicle Maintenance 01-517-4502); rye seed for athletic fields (SCC Co-Op, $1,480, Park and Grounds Maintenance 01-551-1000); and an asphalt patch for streets (Rock Asphalt, $1,178.80, Maintenance 01-516-6000). Each purchase was moved, seconded and approved by unanimous vote.
The council adopted Resolution R2023-11-013, which calls the City of Moody’s taxable General Obligation Warrant, Series 2021-B, for optional redemption in full on Nov. 21, 2023. Later in the meeting the council voted to adopt Resolution R2023-11-13A, authorizing the city to enter into a contract to purchase real property; the council first voted to suspend the rules (roll call) before approving the resolution, and the roll-call recorded all present voting AYE.
The council also approved travel for City Clerk Tracy L. Patterson to attend the 2023 Municipal Clerks Annual Conference (Nov. 28–Dec. 1) at a cost not to exceed $1,300 (Admin Training 01-512-1500). Mayor Lee introduced Mr. Willie Strickland Jr. as the 2023 Moody Christmas Parade Grand Marshal during the meeting's announcements.
All motions recorded in the published agenda were carried by unanimous vote. The meeting was closed at 6:09 p.m. with no further business.
