Des Moines County seeks LWCF grant to pave RV sites and improve accessibility at Big Hollow Recreation Area

Conservation Director Chris Lee presented the project, which would pave up to 14 existing gravel-pad RV sites to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. The resolution lists the project site as 18853 152nd Ave., Sperry, Iowa, and estimates the total cost at $228,000. The county will seek 50% funding from the National Park Service through the LWCF program and certified it can finance its share and will operate and maintain the completed project.
The resolution also affirms compliance with federal non-discrimination requirements, including Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and implementing regulations referenced in 43 CFR 17, and acknowledges that the project must follow the terms of the NPS Grants-in-Aid Manual if a grant is awarded. Member Jim Cary moved to approve the resolution and Vice Chair Tom Broeker seconded; the measure passed.
The action authorizes staff to proceed with the grant application; the project will require further planning and, if funded, construction work to pave the designated RV pads.
