The Poweshiek County Board of Supervisors voted March 4 to continue using attorney Brent Hinders as the county's representative on union matters after Hinders left Hopkins & Huebner, P.C. and joined Hinders, Updegraff & Franklin, P.L.C., effective March 1, 2026.
Supervisor Jeff Tindle moved to continue representation with Mr. Hinders at his new firm and to authorize Hopkins & Huebner to transfer county files to Hinders, Updegraff & Franklin; Supervisor Jacki Bolen seconded the motion. The motion carried 3-0.
Board members said they had obtained input from Sheriff Maschmann and County Engineer Brehm on representation in union matters before making the decision. The meeting minutes record the change in lawyer affiliation and the board's authorization for file transfer but do not record specific ongoing-contract terms, fee schedules, or a transition timeline.
No alternate firm was chosen; the board recorded a unanimous decision to continue with Mr. Hinders at his new firm and to have Hopkins & Huebner transfer the county's files.
