MACo Trust insurance options reviewed; county attorney outlines road plan and other priorities

Pam Walling of MACo Trust met with Garfield County staff and commissioners on Jan. 7 to review employee health-insurance questions and plan options.
Walling spoke with Clerk & Recorder Charlie Saylor, Jennifer Crawford and Tasha Powell about distinctions among group plans, private insurance, Medicare and Medicaid; circumstances under which employees might opt out; and the potential to offer a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) or cash-in-lieu option if employees provide evidence of other coverage. She also noted the end of certain COVID-era subsidies and discussed shopping for alternative insurance options; the county took no formal action on benefits at the meeting.
Separately, County Attorney Adam Forslund raised operational priorities including working with the Road Department (mentioning Bryan Woods) to develop a Road Maintenance Plan and including roads in the Capital Improvement Plan. Forslund also flagged discussions on mill levies, the Health Center Advisory Board meeting next week, revising probationary periods and predator-control/county bounty issues. Commissioners indicated the road-maintenance meeting with the Road Department is a priority and directed staff to schedule it.
